Kodu Pac-Man

1. My game is actually pretty similar to the original because to win you have to get all the apples. You can knockout the Kodu by eating a green apple but it only lasts for 10 seconds. The map is basic and you get 3 lives to start with. The only things different would probably be the graphics, characters,  and the respawn point.

2. I added the 60fps because it was recommended and it did make the game a lot smoother. I added the trees so the game could run better because the code on them would not work on the other bots plus it would take a lot of work to move pages on the bots.

3. I had a LOT of difficulty finding a way to make the timer work and the lives. It took me a long time but eventually I thought about it and it worked out. Using the page system actually solved my problems really quick.

4. They told me I should probably make it smoother (60fps), change the height of the Kodu and walls, give the Cycle a glow, and turn the speed up a bit.

5. I would probably make it bigger and more challenging for the players because it is in a pretty basic state right now. I would also maybe make more paths and a different kind of power up.

Kodu - Intro

Kodu's programming

The balloon bot's programming

1. The only issue I had with programming was trying to see what worked and where each thing was. It was mostly pretty simple and straightforward. I just needed to look carefully and think of ways to make the map a bit more complicated and not just a simple "get 5 apples" game.

2. The only thing she recommended was to make the bot slightly faster so in the bot settings I just turned it up but also changed a bit of Kodu's speed too so it matched better.

Video Games: The Movie

1. Video games are successful because each one is very different from the other and there is new content constantly being released. It's basically a form of entertainment that includes multiple elements to attract consumers, such as good music, gameplay, plot, etc. The fact that it is interactive and makes the player think without moving much is another big factor.

2. In the 1980's, video games were doing very well, so well that game developers started getting cocky. They started releasing games one after the other, it was really quantity over quality at that point. They thought people would buy them either way but of course, it just caused the Crash. One of the most popular games of the Crash was ET on Atari. It was/is considered the worst game ever and it taught a valuable lesson to game devs that making a game with good content is the only way to win people over, not just using a movie's mascot.

3. Video games are in every way, art. I guess it depends on what you see as art but video games are literally art from the music to the writing to the maps, I can't really see how it isn't. Art has emotions and perspectives that can be pulled from it, video games do too. Art could take a long time to make, just like video games. Really, video games are just art but interactive and more technical since, well, it actually has to move and operate.

4. The next evolution would probably just be a console with more RAM and more portable gameplay (cough, Nintendo Switch cough) along with better games I hope. Virtual Reality is another big one but until they make it even more immersive I don't think it would be a common household system. Some challenges would probably be bugs because I assume there would be a lot of bugs and a lot of problems when running the games since they just get bigger and bigger. Developers are always finding new ways to make a video game and trying to appeal to the audience every time would probably be the biggest challenge.

P.S The Nintendo Switch I think would be pretty revolutionary just by how it's set up plus it has a lot of third parties cooperating. We don't know much about it yet but from how it looks it will probably satisfy a lot of people.

Photoshop Intro

First when I started to create my header, I needed to get the background image that would be the base. I chose something that could be stretched to the right size for the header. After that I chose photos that I thought would look good on it and quick selected the parts I wanted. Once I dragged it to the background I would edit out parts I didn't want by zooming in, erasing, and sometimes changing the blending options; for example, choosing the lighter colour to be shown on the triforce piece in the middle to get rid of some of the left over black parts. For the rest of them I mostly just made it fade so it blended better. After it was done I just added text and finished.

GAME ANALYSIS DAY

Game Chart Link

1. Each game stood out to me in some way. They all included different elements and interesting gameplay, mainly Super Smash Flash 2, Pause Ahead, and This is the Only Level. They all had some kind of unique gameplay element whether it's the controls or objective.

2. Super Smash Flash 2 was probably the "good" game because of how it manages to succeed at pretty much every element from the graphics, to the objectives, to the enemies, it has almost no flaws.

3. Nitrome Must Die was probably the "bad" game because the enemies weren't fun to destroy, the rewards did not make me want to try harder, the concept was bland and basic, and the only thing I liked was probably the graphics which is saying a lot. There's nothing wrong with the game itself, the genre and mechanics are okay, I just found it hard to enjoy and it was just not fun in general.

4.   Super Smash Flash 2 is mainly trying to launch your opponent off the stage and off screen. There is no real plot but the fighting mechanics itself are fun to play and get better at. You're supposed to use combos and attacks that will raise the percentage of the opponent and once it is high enough, they will be easier to launch off stage. The positives are definitely the enemies that are all separate characters, the concept that is based on the actual Super Smash Bros. series, the graphics, and the navigation. Although it is a more pixelated version of SSB, it IS a browser game and it actually does really well. There are a lot of characters not normally in SSB and the controls that may seem strange at first can be changed to fit the player better just like in the regular SSB games. The only negatives to this game would probably be that the rewards are really just you being able to finish the campaign and get good. Eventually you would probably get tired of playing. Anyway, I still rate this a 9/10 (for a browser game) because there's just so many good things about SSF2 that shouldn't be ignored.
